Marijuana Martyr

On October 2, 1937- the very day the Marihuana Tax Stamp Act was enacted - a 58-year-old unemployed laborer and part-time reeferman named Samuel R. Caldwell set up shop in Denver's seedy Lexington Hotel. Local police and FBI officers raided, caught Caldwell in the act of selling two joints, and took him down for dealing - the first person ever charged under the brand-new federal law. "I consider marijuana the worst of all narcotics, far worse than the use of morphine or cocaine. Under its influence men become beasts," the judge declared, sentencing Caldwell to four years of hard labor. "I have no sympathy with those who sell this weed. The government is good to enforce this new law to the letter."

Samuel R. Caldwell served every day of his sentence in Leavenworth Penitentiary, on top of a $1000 fine, and died a year after his release.

SKILL OF THE MONTH: COOKING WITH CANNABIS

While many frequent users don't notice any adverse effects from a daily dose of weed, the daily dose of brownies is another story. It's just as easy to add cannabis to healthy foods as it is to not-so-healthy ones. Consider putting your bud in more wholesome options, such as guacamole, spaghetti sauce, smoothies, or stir fries.

Thank you High Times for the tip.

SHOTGUN!

The term shotgun originated among U.S. soldiers in Vietnam, who sometimes smoked the plentiful local sativas out of their shotguns by fitting a loaded pipe into the chamber, lighting it, and having one soldier blow the smoke from the pipe down to his buddy waiting at the business end of the weapon. Nowadays, the same concept can still be applied, albeit without the actual shotgun. The shotgunner simply puts a smoking joint into his mouth backwards, holding the lit end inside so that it doesn't burn his lips. The "shotgunned" then inhales from the unlit end at the same time his buddy exhales in the opposite direction.

Warning: This result may blow your mind.

Thank you High Times for the knowledge.

MOROCCAN HASH FACTS

In 2004, the United Nations' first Cannabis Survey revealed that 134,000 hectares of marijuana had been cultivated to Morocco in the previous year, yielding 42 percent of the world's hashish, and establishing the famous Rif Mountains as the leading international region in the production and export of hashish. Cannabis cultivation in Morocco dates from the arrival of Arab invaders in the fourth century, and has survived countless sultans, kings and even Spanish rule.
