Your Brain On Drugs

Because the brain naturally has THC-specific receptors, scientists have long thought there must be a naturally-occurring brain chemical similar to THC. In 1992, Israeli scientist Raphael Mechoulam found it: arachidonyl ethanolamide, or "anandamide," from ananda, the Sanskrit word for bliss. Compounds very similar to anandamide have also been found in dark chocolate.
