Introducing the absolute worst person to have sitting in front of you at a Grateful Dead show: former NBA all-star, current TV commentator, and major deadhead Bill Walton. At six foot eleven, you have no chance of seeing over him, and if he finds you during the set break and starts talking about help-side defense, you're in for a long night.
Walton, who saw dozens of Dead shows, including private performance in front of the Egyptian pyramids in 1978, says he learned everything he really needed to know about playing hoops from Jerry and the boys:"They taught me the importance of deliverying peak performance on demand, and to always play with a sense of joy and creativity," Walton says of the Dead. "They were just like a great basketball team ... a group of outstanding individuals realizing that the strength of the team was the strength of the individual."
Thank you High Times.
